Artificial Intelligence is making fast progress and is becoming more and more part of our daily lives. This raises new questions about the relationship between AI and human thinking. The debate about whether AI can think “like a human” has moved beyond science and into public discussion. But before we can answer this question, we need to ask an even more basic one:

What does it really mean to think “like a human”?

This essay tries to look at this complex question from different angles. We will examine the nature of human thinking, explore the concept of humanity, and look at how these ideas affect society. Finally, we will compare AI and human thinking, considering the different views of engineers and social scientists.
